Parts Locators

Parts Locators are similar to a portal (and unlike a dealer parts website) – without a parts catalog. Users must start with one or more specific (and accurate) OEM part numbers. Potential parts buyers that have access to OEM part numbers include: (1) same-franchise dealers – in our out of country; (2) collision estimating system users; (3) mechanical estimating system users; (4) fleets with records of previous parts purchases; (5) anyone who has obtained a part number through an parts e-commerce portal or by calling a dealership. (However, in the case of the collision and mechanical repair estimating systems, OEM part number accuracy is an issue.)

Typically users are able to place orders by e-mail or other mechanisms that lack financial settlement.

Parts locators serve two distinct markets. The primary market consists of other same-franchise dealerships. The secondary market (for open locators) overlaps with that of dealer websites: consumers, enthusiasts, and occasional B2B buyers.
